This thrills me to no end that people use what could be a bad destructive force and turn it around for good. The Phelps have been a thorn in my side for years – they actually showed up at my alma mater last year on their way back to KS after `protesting` at Ft. Hood.

Thanks so much for doing this. Responding to hate with love is the only way to quell it.

I quit collecting comics when the cover price went up to 40 cts., and consider SDCC a horrible parody of the worst things that have happened to “fandom” since the commercial interests took over media/comics conventions. But for all those reasons not to be there, I’m nonetheless glad that you’re turning these blasphemous morons’ presence into goodness. Thanks for doing this.

As a Quaker, I’ll make my donation to the American Friends Service Committee, people engaged for decades in a bunch of actual Christian activities in which other folks are welcome to join: the anti-Phelps (bizarro-Phelps?) folks of the Christian tradition. I’ll send the good wishes of the SDCC attendees along when I do so.

Yeah they protested our school last semester because we’re a military school. (The funny bit is that only 1/3 of the cadets actually join the military so it’s more of a “military style school’) But they never actually filed the proper forms so they weren’t allowed on campus!
The worst part is how they instigate fights, sue the people/institutions and that’s how they make money. It’s deplorable.
If I had more than $40 in my account I would donate (sadly it’s all budgeted out) but keep up the good work!

I will donate 10$ to amFAR 10$ to human rights if that’s a plan too. And if my bank account is healthy I will donate more after comic-con. (I will be going).

Thank you for doing this, and for reminding me to ignore these pricks, which will be difficult for me.

Donating to Human Rights Campaign will become appropriate once they start fully supporting trans-inclusive policies, but until then it will not be. Apart from that, great idea!
