Best writer who would rock a major crossover event series: (Tie) Kelly Sue DeConnick and Adam Glass. DeConnick proved adept on penning the machinations of an incarcerated supervillain with her Osborne miniseries, and that’s key for a big honkin’ superhero event. (Heck, just have a whole event be confined to a supervillain breakout at The Raft or something. I’d read that.) As for Glass, he’s the major rising star for stuff involving bad guys with Flashpoint: Legion of Doom and the new Suicide Squad under his belt. Give him some heroes to toss in there, too, and let him loose. And his writing on the TV series Supernatural as a supervising executive producer shows he can add some nuance to all the punching, shooting and more punching.

Best use of bad guys:Fear Itself. Matt Fraction put mystical hammers in the hands of Attuma, Titania, Absorbing Man, Grey Gargoyle, Juggernaut and others of the Marvel Universe’s heaviest hitters in his event series. Even worse for the do-gooders: A possessed Hulk and Thing joining them to pummel the world just when it needed them the most.

Fraction and I are planning on attending this screening of Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts at Floating World on January 6th.  You should come–it’ll be fun.  We’re doing a Q&A after, so you can ask us if Ellis is really as awesome as all that.  [Spoiler: he is.]

Warren Ellis sees the future. He is a comic book writer and cyberpunk philosopher living on the edge of tomorrow. He speaks to a cult audience of artists, journalists, scientists and fans who hail him as INTERNET JESUS.

The film was shot over the course of 2010 and 2011 in England, San Diego and New York. It was completed in Fall 2011 and will premiere at the Napa Valley Film Festival in November 2011, before a worldwide theatrical and special engagement run. DVD release will follow in February 2011.

The film was directed by Patrick Meaney, shot by Jordan Rennert, and produced by Respect Films and Sequart, as a followup to the critically acclaimed Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods.

Hey, look–shiny things!

• The Fantastic Fangirls named both Matt and I in their year-end round-up and I couldn’t be more pleased. We get a lot of support from the FFs and I’m particularly grateful for it because I’ve learned so much from them over the last year. Bright, funny women, that bunch. It looks like Laurenn, Tallulah and I are going to see Sigrid (and possibly Caroline?) at Wiscon come spring, and I’m very much looking forward to it.
• Speaking of the FF, Jennifer is pulling double-duty as a correspondent for Newsarama, where I made her list of BEST OF 2010. Sweeeet!
• The Guerilla Geek podcast “Dept H” gave OSBORN big love in their ep labelled 7.1. (And hey! Something I planted just to amuse myself got caught. Nice. Gotta love a careful reader.)
• EDITED TO ADD: Hey, Multiversity Comics gave Osborn 2 (out yesterday at your local comic book shop or available online from Midtown Comics) a solid review as well.
• With the release of the trade paperback, Chuck BB and I are feeling another wave of love for the CBGB COUNT 5 OR 6 story, here from none other than Blair Butler… which pretty much rules.
• Oh! And The Comics Journal liked our piece too. Nice.

Oh, one more thing: today’s my mom’s birthday. Happy birthday, Mama.
