Castle: Storm Season

Comments Off

Still more good news I neglected to share!

Mr. Brian M. Bendis and I are teaming up once again!  This time we’re working with Uh! Maze! Zing! Italian artist EMANUELA LUPACCHINO on the sequel to the ABC TV tie-in Castle: Deadly StormCastle: Storm Season.  We’re well into it already and let me say Ema is killing it.  I’m having so much fun working on this book, I kind of can’t believe it’s happening.

For more details, here’s a piece on and here’s one from the TV Guide site.

The image below is from the cover, by artist Dustin Weaver.

Powell’s Signing with Brian Michael Bendis

Facebook Event Page here.

Please join Brian Michael Bendis and me at Powell’s (1005 W Burnside) this Friday evening at 7:30.

Brian doesn’t do many public appearances any more, so if you’re a fan–this is your chance.  Powell’s will have the Castle book as well as Powers collections and who knows what all else.  (Brian also says he’s bringing some free comics for giveaways!)

Bit of this and that:

  • USA Today online has a preview of the Spider-Mom story I did with ChuckBB right here.  I believe it is available for free tomorrow on the Marvel Comics app for iPhone and iPad, Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited and Marvel Comics on Chrome. (If you like Chuck’s work–and if you don’t, I might still love you, but I can’t pretend to understand you–you can pick up the CBGB collection he and I are in together for a mere $7 on Amazon.)
  • Supergirl #67, This is Not My Life: Part 3 of 3 comes out on Wednesday, wrapping up not only our little yarn, but also this iteration of Supergirl. Pick it up at your local comic book shop, or order it online from one of these fine retailers.
  • I’m pretty sure I haven’t posted a link to this yet: Parts 1 and 2 of an interview at Weekly Comic Book Review.
  • has been putting up teasers for the upcoming CASTLE: DEADLY STORM graphic novel. The latest is here. Pre-order the book on Amazon for $12.
  • Aaaaaaaaaand I’ve run out of time. I had a couple of other things to tell you, but they’ll have to wait.

Tunnels and Lights

So I wrapped a monster script at 5:10pm last night and I was somehow expecting to feel lighter today. I guess it hasn’t quite hit me yet. (The last two pages are still nagging at me. That might be the problem. I can tweak them yet if I want to, but the solution hasn’t materialized yet. Any minute now would be good.)

In other news, SUPERGIRL 65 dropped yesterday! Most everyone seems to like it, so I’m pleased. I try not to care what other TEH INTARWEBS say — I think ultimately if I’m pleased with it and my editor’s pleased with it, then it’s a success and I ought to free up that mental energy for the next thing. (Caveat: I’m still very much rooted in Beginner’s MInd in this pursuit and nothing’s going to be perfect. Do the best job I can do and then make note of what mistakes I’ve made, what I can learn from, and MOVE ON.)… But I’m human. So I care. I was particularly concerned about the thoughts of the fine folks at and Supergirl Comic Box Commentary because I know Kara is very close to their hearts and… I don’t know. I don’t want to reverse-engineer and write what I think other people want, but I do want the superfans–the people for whom this character means the most–to feel I’ve treated the opportunity with respect. Does that make sense? Anyway, I heard from them both and they were both very positive. So. Big exhale. And as the two remaining books are each better than the previous, I think–I hope–we’re drawing aces. Big thanks to my collaborators Wil Dennis, ChrisCross, Marc Deering, Blond and Travis Lanham. Congratulations, fellas!

Up next for me, an 8-pager for Marvel and a one-shot for another company that I’m more excited about than my scheduling would suggest.

Then? I’m taking a little time to focus on A Creator-Owned Thing.

On a personal note, my dad and step mom are coming to visit today and I could not be more excited.

There’s so much more I want to share but I’ve got errands to run, two interviews to write out and some research to do today, so I’m calling it for the moment.

Next post, I’m going to try to start talking about what I’ve learned about comics writing and my specific process over the last year and a half.

See you then.

EDITED TO ADD: Comic News Insider Episode 339, my conversation with Jimmy Aquino at Heroes Con has gone live!

Stuff & Things

Things! Stuff!

  • First up, remember that project with “BMB” I teased a while back?  BAM! Castle: Deadly Storm
  • Also in announcements, Fraction and I are going to Brazil in November as guests of Belo Horizonte. We’ve never been there before and we’re super-excited about it.
  • And INSANELY HUGE thanks to everyone who has thus far donated (and those of you who are considering donating later) to my Run for Congo fundraising efforts.  As of right now, I’m over 10x my goal–$2,000+!  I’m not sure how much two grand buys in Congo, but I’m hoping it buys one woman some peace and a lead on a future.  If you looking for something else to do, you might consider writing to your representatives about a special envoy for Congo.  That would make every dollar we send more effective.  More ideas here and here.
  • As a reminder, I’ve got two signings coming up–one in Chicago and one in Wisconsin. The one is Chicago is looking like it’s going to be HILARIOUS, as I was just sent my script for the Dramatic Osborn 5 reading.  No… No, I’m not kidding and I have to say I think it’s going to be awesome.  If you’re in the area, I’d love it if you came.  I’ll even let you read Norman.  (Also, I hear there will be cookies.)  Also I believe Siuntres will be coming by to do an episode of Wordballoon.
